Connecting cultures through food, dance, music, clothing and art. That's Connecting Cultures. Almere has many cultures that present themselves during this event. Come and enjoy the taste, culture and music from all parts of the world!

Workshops and Demonstrations

You can cook as a visitor during these cooking workshops, and you can enjoy delicious traditional dishes and snacks. You learn new recipes and you will take a look in the cooking world of different cultures. The ongoing cooking workshops are given in timeslots of 2 hours, so many different dishes and snacks from various cultures can be made.

Cultural Market

Enjoy browsing through special clothing, art and spices. During Connecting Cultures there is a large cultural market where you can find products from all over the world. The market consists of handmade regional products, exhibitions and culinary tastings.

Surinamese Pom, Indian curry or just Dutch poffertjes. During Connecting Cultures you can enjoy all these and many more delicacies from around the world. You can find them all on the Foodcourt.

Cultural Activities

There will be a activity theatre for children and/or adults that have to do with your culture. There will be workshops an activity’s where something is made, but also for example telling a story. The activities are offered in timeslots of 2 hours, so many different activities can be held. Most activities are free to participate in.

In the large tent at the Forum you can do all kinds of fun activities, such as making bracelets, calligraphy or making traditional dolls. A few workshops require a small contribution, but most are free. Because there is a limited number of participants per activity, we ask you to report to the desk in the tent first. On Saturday at 10:15 am the activities start with a Chinese children's choir and dance group. Both Saturday and Sunday the activities end at 5:30 pm with breaking a pinata.

Parade

On Saturday, a parade will pass through Almere Centrum from 1:15 pm. People in traditional costume of their country accompanied by various musicians. A colorful procession of people who proudly propagate their culture. Start and finish of the parade is on the Esplanade.

Exhibit

On Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 August you can come and take a look at the art exhibition gallery. There will be art exhibited from different countries, like South American countries, Africa and India

Musical art or Dance

Dancing, singing and celebrating together, that's what Connecting Cultures is all about. During the event you can enjoy various music and dance acts from all over the world. Saturday from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm and Sunday from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm. There is a stage on the Grote Markt and a stage at the Foodcourt on the Esplanade. Through the center you will encounter various street musicians.
