Work at ALLUMINOUS?
ALLUMINOUS light art festival cannot be realized without the enthusiastic efforts of students and volunteers. We are very grateful that so many kind people help us out. We also do our very best to make ALLUMINOUS a fun experience for students and volunteers, and to make things behind the scenes as enjoyable as possible! For example, chef Sergio cooks a fresh, delicious meal every day, you’ll receive a hat, rain suit, and thermos as a gift, we bring around snacks and hot drinks, and there’s always a treat waiting after the festival closes. Read here how you can help us this year!
For volunteers: Since the very first edition of ALLUMINOUS, it’s our friendly and cheerful volunteers who make our festival welcoming and keep it running. They stand along the route as hosts to tell visitors about the artworks, they work at the information desk to inform the audience, they sell shuttle boat tickets, and they guide visitors along the route. It’s also possible to help chef Sergio with crew and artist catering. English-speaking volunteers are very welcome. You don’t need to be available every day. Even if you can only help for 1 or 2 days, you’re already welcome. Sign up via the volunteer form.
For student, music, and sports associations: Would you like to earn something extra for your club funds? If you come with your association, you can earn 5 euros per person per hour for the club fund. That can add up quickly! Email crew@alluminous.nl to explore the possibilities.
For students: We have 2 opportunities for students to gain work experience.
Site production: If you are physically strong and like rolling up your sleeves in all kinds of weather, you can sign up with the site production team. You will be supervised by our experienced site producer Toby Peperkamp. You’ll gain experience with setting up fencing, hanging signage, building tents and Layher towers, learning about power supply and what to do in case of outages, helping to lay plastic road plates and wood chips as bad-weather provisions, and assisting with the waste plan. We expect you to be at least 18 years old and available for at least 3 days. Below are the working times. Send an email to crew@alluminous.nl with your contact details and availability. We’ll then get in touch to schedule you.

Location manager: Several areas along the 5.5 km light art route need a location manager who takes care of everything there, welcomes and directs everyone, keeps an eye on things, and stays in direct contact with the organization. You could be a location manager at a food court, where you are the contact point for the food trucks and welcome the performers who appear there. Or you could be a location manager at one of the boat piers, where you are the contact point for the skipper and for visitors with boat tickets. We expect you to be available at least 3 days. Working hours are 16:30 – 23:00 from Friday Oct 17 through Sunday Oct 26. Sign up by emailing crew@alluminous.nl with your personal details and availability.
